Re Better bus service arrives in Chilliwack
I would like to dispute the word “better.” Although it is nice that we finally have service to Eagle Landing, many riders of Chilliwack are very upset at the cuts and rescheduling made on the other routes, and the bus drivers themselves have said many of the changes make no sense. Frequency might have increased, but if you need to walk an extra 10 minutes to get to the bus stop and then make another longer trek from the bus stop, then there’s really no point in taking the bus as it can be almost or just as quick to walk. Or you can stay home. Or you can take the car. With the rescheduling, many Stream employees are now left high and dry at the beginning of the day because that route will now arrive later than it currently does. For myself, what was once a 15-minute trip including walking to and from the bus stops, has now become a 35 to 40-minute sojourn which includes leaving my house 20 minutes earlier. And if the bus is delayed by a train, I can expect to be late for work. I can’t transfer to another bus because the schedules don’t match up. The new schedules include cuts that affect people’s ability to get to work and school in a timely and efficient manner. This is not “better” in my opinion.
