Buy un-manipulated, local food

It should be pointed out that plants, like corn for example, are genetically altered to be resistant to herbicides like RoundUp Ready.

In response to the letter of Dec. 11 by Robert Wager of VIU which implied that eating genetically modified plants is perfectly healthy, it should be pointed out that plants, like corn for example, are genetically altered to be resistant to herbicides like RoundUp Ready.

Plant genes are altered so that they will survive the tons of this product sprayed on agricultural fields, while all the “weeds” are killed — very efficient. The trouble is that RoundUp Ready stays in the corn, is ingested and is toxic to our natural intestinal flora; this can lead to a variety of serious illnesses.

When it comes to our stomachs, we need to buy locally produced, un-manipulated foods, not over-processed, toxic products from yet another giant company who cares for little else but its profits.
