Last week I visited the new campsite that has sprung up on City of Parksville property just off Turner Road — 300 feet from the original site of which Bruce Murray spoke of in his guest column in your Nov. 24 issue.
Since then the site has doubled and now tripled in size. Nothing has been cleaned up and the individual continues to live there — complete with feces, syringes, garbage and broken bottles.
So while the City of Parksville follows “process” that involves their “lawyer” being consulted, the site grows.
If this situation had been dealt with by the City in a timely manner when the original complaints were made (Nov. 9), there would not be this much mess for city crews to clean up.
Not to mention the taxpayer dollars that will now be required to clean these sites up, once the city has followed “process” and takes action.
Good thing our taxes are going up by four per cent next year. The City of Parksville will need those extra monies in their coffers just to clean up this mess.
Too bad for those of us who enjoy the trails, too bad for the deer and wildlife that are trying to cohabitate with this individual or individuals and too bad for the city crews who, when dispatched from “on high,” will have to clean up the human feces, syringes, garbage and broken beer bottles.
What a shame.
