Canada Day Parade will be full day of celebration

Dear editor,

The last couple of weeks, local media posed questions and suggestions about a pride parade, a rainbow crosswalk and painting the Fifth Street Bridge in rainbow colours.

One individual asked what will be the route of the pride parade. The answer to that request is it starts at the top of Fifth and runs down the street to Lewis and Simms parks. The title of the parade we’ve chosen here in the Comox Valley is the Canada Day Parade. It’s a full day of celebration, everyone showing their pride for the country in which we live. It’s on the same date every year, July 1, so mark your calendar for next year.

Having a rainbow crosswalk, rainbow painted bridge or a rainbow flag as mentioned in previous newspapers, may have some merit. You see, as a child and throughout my life the rainbow has always been a reminder to me (and many others I know within our community) of God’s promises to each one of us. The rainbow reminds us of God’s love, His mercy, His forgiveness, His faithfulness, His promise of eternal life, all His promises kept through His son, Jesus Christ. Many of us began with a rainbow bookmark as our first reminder that God keeps His promises.
