To the editor:
With the Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (FIPA) with China ratified, we will forever be looking over our shoulders.
No municipal, provincial, or future federal government will dare to improve environmental laws, or oppose a development proposed by a Chinese state-owned company, if it is perceived by China, that it will hinder their profit.
To dare to cross that line will be prohibitively expensive for taxpayers. FIPA also usurps First Nations rights.
My heart plunges at the news. The agreement ensures the tar sands; associated pipelines; and tanker traffic will all be developed to there fullest capacity.
Hello, it will be full-blown climate disruption!
There may be no recourse in the courts.
British Columbia, we have been strategically and methodically duped.
