I am a blueberry farmer and have been using the cannons for 10 years now.
Our cannons start at 6 a.m., then are turned off from noon to 2 p.m. Then they are blasting until 7 p.m.
These are very reasonable hours. They do scare away all the crows and starlings and are a tremendous help. Yes, it is hard for the neighbours but it is only four weeks out of the year.
Abbotsford produces 12.5 million pounds of blueberries, so a few complaining neighbours will not change anything. The government officials understand that this is a huge money industry and will not side with complaining neighbours. Isn’t that always the bottom line?
