Care and compassion

Local resident recounts encounter with cat and caregivers

Recently, I was driving on Highway 97, near the Swan Lake Nurseryland garden centre, heading towards Vernon.

On the soft shoulder, I saw the body of a white and tabby cat.

By the time I was able to return and retrieve it, the cat had been hit again, either accidentally or deliberately, and was now on the road.

I had parked behind it on the soft shoulder. The trunk of my car was open, my hazard lights were on and I waited until it was safe to pick it up.

I phoned the Vernon SPCA for advice and they suggested taking it to a local veterinarian clinic.

So although the cat’s life had ended tragically on the highway, it was treated with care and compassion by the staff at the clinic

Thank you.
