The Penticton Arts Council/Leir House and the Okanagan School of the Arts/Shatford Centre have partnered with Celebrating 50 Years of Creativity for an exciting three-day event for the creative community that begins on Sept. 22 with the opening of an exhibit at the Shatford Centre.
Everyone is invited to attend. It will run until Oct. 22.
At 7 p.m. on Sept. 23, former five-year faculty member Ann Mortifee and her husband Paul Horn, father of new age music, will be with us for In Love With The Mystery and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. they offer a workshop, Sacred Union. Go to www.osarts.com for details.
For Saturday evening, we are preparing the invitation list for the Harvest Gala, Celebrating 50 Years of Creativity and would appreciate you sending names and contact info of individuals to invite.
There will be local food featured, entertainment and creative adventures. Please send names and contact info to info@shatfordcentre.com.
Over 50 years ago there was a group of individuals that came together to form the Okanagan Summer School of the Arts and the Penticton and District Community Arts Council.
In our archives, there are photos, minutes and videos to assist us to have a glimpse into those transformational times. We have gathered the names of board members and faculty, over the five decades, who have been the foundation for where we are today.
There is a rich history of arts and culture in the South Okanagan and we would appreciate photographs, stories and videos of pioneers in the arts and culture sector, organizations that would like to be featured and past projects and events.
There is space for story boards and displays, so please consider contributing to this exhibit. We are working with Peter Ord, curator, Penticton Museum and Archives and we believe that this gathering of information will help us all to appreciate our heritage of our creative community.
We have an exciting few weeks coming up as we prepare for the festivities. We are looking for help-mates to work together on this event and enhancing the building. If you would like to participate, please call us at 250-770-7668 or email info@shatfordcentre.com.
The Leir House and Shatford Centre are community treasures and assets. We have much to celebrate at this moment in time. We hope that you join us during this milestone occasion!
PS: Shatford Centre is partnering with Pen High Senior Secondary and is the headquarters for the Pen High 100 Celebrations of a Century that will take place May 18, 19 and 20, 2012.
Alumni, staff and teachers are working together to make this a wonderfully successful event. Please consider volunteering with the preparations. You can go to www.penhigh100.com for information.
