Cellphone companies should help 911 costs

Re: Supreme court rejects city’s 911 cellphone levy, July 12.

Is the cellphone congolmerate so powerful that it can collect a 75-cent per month levy for 911 and not pay any of that to local municipalities?

If there is such a levy, then it should be used to relieve the burden on local taxpayers.

Perhaps there is a way to add to the fees charged for the use of land for the transmission towers.

The provincial and federal governments would both get a boost for making all of the cellphone companies pay their fair share for this vital service.
