Check out the Legion for great activities

Sharon MacDonald keeps the public up to date on activities and upcoming events in Quesnel

Welcome back fellow Legion members and those of you who read this column just for fun – and if you are one of those non-members – what are you waiting for, come on in to the branch and fill out a membership application, pay your $55 annual dues and you too can claim membership in this worldwide organization.

If you were here last Saturday, you enjoyed our Valentine’s Dance with the sultry tunes of Newcountry Touch and also had the opportunity to partake in quite the spread of appetizers at mid evening.  By all accounts, it was a very good night for all those who attended.

Our next big event is this Saturday, with the  Hall of Fame awards night dinner and dance.  This popular evening is priced at only $25 a person.  The  doors open at 6 p.m. with dinner following at 6:30 p.m.  Award presentation is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m., followed by a night of dancing. This year the  inductees are Pat Kastrukoff, Arlene Loxterkamp and John Nechvolodoff.  All very worthy recipients.  If you have not bought your tickets yet, just pop into the Legion and buy them at the lounge.

Zumba classes are scheduled from 9:30  – 10:30 a.m. Feb. 22 and  29 in the Hall.  Admission to this fun class is only $3 at the door.  Keenagers continue to meet every Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. for their workout.  The price on these classes are also $3.  This is a fun-filled, safe class geared to all fitness levels.  Why not try them out – great way to get into shape for the summer ahead.

Deanna is still hard at work providing weekly lunches.  Every Tuesday to Friday, you can come to the Legion – member or non-member and enjoy one of these home cooked delights.  This  Feb. 17, homemade Chinese buffet will be the lunch special.  All those great taste pleasures for the sum of $8.95  – best price in town.  Hurry in though as the Friday buffets are a very popular lunch and have been known to sell out – you don’t want to miss out on your chance at great Chinese food at this great price.  Lunches run from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

The Comeau Dart Tournament is scheduled for the weekend of March 2 – 4.  This weekend begins with a Friday night Fun Darts, followed Saturday  with Mens’ singles.  Registration for this event is at 9 a.m. on Saturday.  If you are of the opposite sex and darts are your thing, then you may be interested in  Ladies’ singles.  Registration for this event is at  1p.m. on Saturday.  And if by this time, you still have not had your fill of darts, you will not be disappointed as there is a Sunday Mixed doubles registration at 10 a.m.  If you would like more information on any of these events, call Ken at  250-747-4591.

If you have any issues you want the executive to look into, they have their February meeting on Tuesday, the 28.  This is the chance to voice your concerns or get answers to whatever questions you may have.

The next general meeting will be the following Tuesday, March 6.  The Zone Commander Vivian will be attending this meeting on her annual visit.  She will also be attending the next day, March 7, at the Veteran’s Luncheon where the awards for the Posters, Poems and Essays will be presented.

Don’t forget the new and improved Flea Market which runs Wednesday – Saturday, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.  Come downstairs and see what treasures you may be willing to dicker on.  There is plenty of stock being brought in daily so don’t miss out on that ‘special’ item, you absolutely have to have.

Until next week – enjoy that sunshine and our special brand of “Cariboo Blue” skies.
