To the Editor,
Re: Colliery dam risk lowered, May 29.
Yet another expensive study appears to conclude that there has been an epidemic of ‘Chicken Little’ in Nanaimo. So after spending close to$2 million on studies, do we really have a conclusion?
To many taxpayers, the main conclusion is that there is a problem with the decision-making process at city hall which has resulted in a lack of confidence and trust in decision makers. Part of the problem is the continued resorting to in-camera meetings and the absence of an objective and unbiased public process to examine costly infrastructure projects. The technical committee for the Colliery Dams is a step in the right direction, but it was too late in the process and also lacks transparency.
With an election coming, it behooves anyone running for council to work towards restoring trust, confidence and an improved decision-making process.
