We moved to Penticton last autumn. This city/area is famous for its summer weather as well as retiree and tourist-friendly atmosphere.
To consider a prison in the midst of this idyllic place is absolutely shortsighted and ludicrous in our opinion .
It will dampen tourism and lower everyone’s home values and not provide much well-paid employment for local people, as Correction Service employees from all over the province will simply bid into this area leaving the rat race and less desirable places behind.
The representative from Corrections stated that concerns in other prison candidate communities had fizzled. I would beg to differ with his assessment, none of the other communities were like Penticton.
There is too much to lose and too little to gain. This is a no brainer — quash the idea and leave this community untainted.
