City overpaying for staff, council

To the Editor,

Re: City staff, councillors too well-compensated, Letters, July 5.

At one time, working in government was not a highly paid position.

Things have certainly changed. The  justification for the wild pay scale is that we need to pay these bloated salaries to compete with the private sector is absolute drivel.

So the city’s mandarins are doing very well thank-you. Of course the council gave itself and the mayor a nice raise, but negotiated with no one to increase their compensation. How nice is that?

A core review of the operation of the city is way overdue, but those who might be affected will have none of it.

Those of us on pensions got about a $2 raise a month, yet it costs us the same for a loaf of bread or a litre of gas, makes $200,000 a year look grand.
