City’s building sale a bad deal

What is nuts is how a public building assessed in the millions can so easily be sold for a dollar.

To the Editor,

Re: Re-development plans proposed for former city hall annex, Nov. 20.

Citing the city’s sale of the old city hall annex for a loonie was a good deal, former mayor John Ruttan somehow reasoned that the building has been derelict with no esthetic value. With a $3.5 million assessment I hardly think the building is derelict. It is up to a new owner to spruce something up if they choose.

What is nuts is how a public building assessed in the millions can so easily be sold for a dollar and the mayor, supposedly examining every coin of the public purse, can mutter he does not regret the transfer.
