City’s revitalization an ongoing process

Re: Revitalized downtown still requiring money, Letters, July 26.

If the downtown is revitalized already, why are there so many closed stores, why are the streets empty in the evening?

Why do people from the north part of Nanaimo not come down regularly to shop, sightsee or just enjoy the experience?

As a business owner on the edge of the downtown who does not get any real benefit from all the events on Commercial Street, it still was a pleasure to see the multitude of people on the streets when the street was closed to traffic on Bathtub Race weekend.

Revitalization is an ongoing process. I have seen cities like San Diego and Chicago that revitalized their downtowns and now have citizens as well as tourists that actually want to go there.

And believe me, small business owners spend a great deal of money to keep their business thriving. Enough said.
