I agree wholeheartedly with the letter from James Osborne.
Colin Mayes and the Conservative regime are subscribing to the ideology of “let them eat cake” when it comes to children who are going without adequate food resources.
Meanwhile in an article by Barb Brouwer, in The Morning Star, he says people, “Don’t know what poverty is in this country.” Really? Is this the goal of the Conservative regime?
Maybe our children should apply for assistance from www.samaritanspurse.ca/ They appear to be concerned about the health and well-being of children and believe in supportive actions like clean water, food and health services. Colin Mayes apparently, as stated in this article, has a daughter who works for SMP in Africa. Perhaps it’s time she came home and talked to her father about social responsibility.
For Colin Mayes to suggest lower-income families and seniors are doing well in Canada is ludicrous. I suggest he get out of the bubble of Ottawa and start to take note of the reality in Canada where children, seniors and families are struggling.
Every so often, we hear the truth from this governing body. It behooves us to listen and reflect on the true meaning of their statements and what it says about them and us. Jacqui Gingras nailed it.
The reference to Abraham Lincoln reminds me that this government is turning back the social responsibilities clock as far as they can.
However, he forgets that Canadians have worked long and hard and fought long and hard to become a more ethically-minded, socially-constructive country that respects the rights of all peoples to benefit from services that we all pay for in the hope that as our neighbour’s boat rises we will too.
Mr. Mayes would do well to remember that the government of Canada does not own the country. They are merely the current business and service managers whose main job is to keep the country free from being overtaken by a rogue anti-Canadian regime domestic or foreign, maintain Canada’s sovereignty and hard-won freedoms, protect her citizens from failing to thrive through supportive social programming, be fiscally responsible while supporting workers right to earn a living wage that supports individuals and families and be mindful of the need to protect and support the life of the planet we all live on. I give them a complete fail on all of these aspects. Therefore giving Mr. Mayes a complete fail as well.
Sincerely hoping the eyes of the many will turn to the values of all of us.
