Classic car cruise stunk, literally

I was excited to learn the classic car drive by was coming through our community on the August long weekend.

I have only lived in the Parksville Qualicum Beach area for just over a year. Now that we have settled in, we have been trying to take in some community events.

I was excited to learn the classic car drive by was coming through our community on the August long weekend. I love to see the old cars and so I grabbed a chair and joined my neighbours alongside the road.

I am sorry to say that I had to leave the roadside not even halfway through due to the complete lack of maturity and respect of a few of the drivers. They would stop in front of us as we sat along the roadside and spin their tires until we were engulfed in a blue haze of burnt rubber.

It was upon the third hazing that I left. Despite all of the people there imploring him not to burn his tires, he laughed and proceeded to do so. Not to mention the toxicity of this cloud of burnt rubber to the lungs of the average person. It is especially bad for the young, the elderly and those of us with respiratory illnesses such as asthma and COPD, etc.

As a community event this stunk (literally) and showed no respect for the community in which they drove through. It’s a shame as it was only a few of them, however the whole classic car association is wearing it.
