Cold shiver

When I first heard Vernon’s Mayor was considering the possibility of replacing the RCMP with our own municipal police force, I felt a cold shiver run down my spine and into my wallet.

Lippert justified his position by claiming the RCMP lack accountability.

Meanwhile on the front page of The Morning Star (September 30th) there was a picture of frustrated business owners carrying signs that read: “Shame on City Hall” and “Listen to Us”.

The RCMP has many faults, but with city hall’s track record of spending millions of dollars on our water system with questionable results and an ever-expanding municipal budget, I’m opposed to this mayor and council undertaking any further financial (mis)adventures.

How many local taxpayers trust Vernon City Hall to undertake such a complex task and then deliver cost-effective and accountable policing?

Just writing this question down caused another cold shiver to run down my back.
