Ah, spring!
A time when “a young man’s thoughts turn to thoughts of love” and outdoors and fishing and gardening.
This Monday is the spring equinox, when the sun shines directly on the equator and the length of night and day are nearly equal.
Officially, the spring equinox occurs in Williams Lake at 3:14 a.m.
Spring is here, not officially until Monday, but it feels good.
The warmer temperatures are making water run everywhere with the melting snow.
Some new birds are appearing on the landscape, big flocks of blackbirds and, of course the geese are with us, as are the those beautiful swans.
I really like spring because of all the stuff that comes out of the ground.
All the plants that have shivered their way through winter will soon be poking their flower noses out of warming Earth.
Every day I check my little garden and see some new things growing.
When they are so tiny it’s hard for me to tell exactly what they are.
There are lots of outdoor things to do in the spring — take a walk, get ready for the local ball season or get your fishing gear all lined up as spring time can be the best of all times to catch the big lunker in this part of the country. So many things to do.
The golf course is looking good, so you golfers check your equipment before you hit the greens.
This is also a good time to do some chores around the house, like maybe clean off the patio furniture or clean out the garage after what seemed like a long winter.
Spring reminds me of a time when I was a youngster living in Indian Head Saskatchewan.
Three or four of us would go down to the railway station and we would pick crocuses for our mothers.
I kind of feel sorry for those folks in Quebec and the Maritimes because of the winter they are still having with fierce winds and blowing snow.
And lots of it. Brrrr.
