Many times, there is no common sense. This is in relation to the proposed $7.8 million sports complex at the college.
There are some very glaring issues that should be taken into account in today’s world. The economy is in decline. All we have to do is look at our neighbours to the south and see many cities and towns that are completely broke and who find it hard to provide even the most essential services.
Now, every person here is experiencing a much higher cost of living and most can’t afford yet another burden of higher taxes. We need to make sure our city has the capability of providing clean water, policing, health care, transportation, etc.
There is also the issue of unexpected costs that always seem to appear, like the $1.7 million needed to repair the pool — now this is a facility that is used by people of all ages and what I consider a necessity.
I feel there is a lack of foresight in the choice of location. It is inevitable that there will be an increase in population and the land may be needed for future college expansion and perhaps additional faculties, thus enabling the young people to receive their education right here.
Each and every citizen comes first in the choice of what we really need.
