The South Shuswap Chamber of Commerce and the Sorrento & Area Community Association (SACA) have collaborated to develop the first-ever Community Engagement Day to be held in Sorrento-Blind Bay Park on Sunday, Sept. 18 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend.
The purpose of the day is to provide an opportunity for the numerous non-profit groups, clubs, recreational providers, churches and other community organizations to promote their programs, memberships and activities to all residents of the South Shuswap.
There is a huge variety of activities available for residents in the South Shuswap, and it may surprise many to discover the wide range of pastimes, sports, hobbies, charitable events, community programs, social groups, support groups, educational opportunities and arts and cultural activities that exist right here in our own community.
Our Community Engagement Day will feature children’s programs, food and entertainment from a variety of musical performers throughout the day in the park.
There is no cost to attend.
I’m very supportive of this event as a wide range of events and activities available in a community help to define it as a better place to live, raise a family or enjoy one’s retirement. These activities certainly enhance our quality of life.
Typically, these programs are developed by volunteers and provide low-cost options for participants.
In some cases, the programs offered could be considered as essential services, particularly when children’s, seniors’, charitable, emergency, support, and spiritual programs are considered.
Your participation on Sept. 18 will provide you with a great opportunity to learn more about your community and the many benefits associated with living in the South Shuswap.
The Community Engagement Day is also a major opportunity for non-profit groups and associations to promote themselves and to expand their awareness, programming or membership to the community.
Again, there is no cost for groups to participate as exhibitors, and/or to assist in the planning and management of this event.
The organizers have indicated they will be very appreciative of all suggestions and ideas to help make this event even more successful. Volunteers are always welcomed.
If your group would like to participate in this exciting new community engagement program, please email the South Shuswap Chamber of Commerce by no later than Friday, Aug. 26 at manager@southshuswapchamber.com.
Thanks and appreciation are to be extended to Karen Brown, Brenda Puetz and Barry Stokes for spearheading this wonderful community initiative.
I look forward to seeing you there on September 18!
