Comox council commended for improving safety for cyclists

Dear editor,

In regard to the cycling signs in Comox, as a regular cyclist here for the past 10 years or so, I feel a lot safer now for the cumulative effect of all of the improvements that have been made in widening bike lanes and clearly marking them.

With the exception of the newer subdivisions, most of the streets and roads in the valley are extremely tight and narrow and quite dangerous. Add to that people using cell phones, playing with sound and navigation systems while driving as well as extreme impatience and the danger increases.

Anything that gets their attention to that fact that there are children, many of them novice bike riders, heading to school on these bike lanes is a good thing in my view and I commend council for considering that.

Those who think there are too many signs have to realize that not everyone behind the wheel is as attentive and vigilant as they are.

Bruce Avis,

Comox
