Dear editor,
The municipal elections are quickly closing in on us.
As a taxpayer in Comox, it is of utmost importance that the newly elected council does not proceed with the same governance as portrayed over the past three years, as is not sustainable.
The majority of the current council has little understanding or regard for the importance of increasing the tax base to avoid future increases in taxes.
They are more concerned with bike paths, walkways and recreational activities than the responsibility to provide the necessary services in operating the town.
Such decision-making has nowhere to go but large increases in property taxes. Comox, the “little village by the sea,” is quickly becoming the park for the surrounding jurisdictions at the Comox taxpayer’s expense.
Listen carefully to the candidates as they all preach fiscal responsibility.
The fact is for many of these candidates their proven record has shown that they only pay lip service to this until they are elected.
P. Murphy,
Comox
