Dear editor,
As a Courtenay resident living close to downtown, a cyclist and a downtown shopper I have noticed the presence of the RCMP bicycle patrol in the area.
The bike patrol officers are very friendly and approachable and maintain a more civil environment for all. I have noticed that since the presence of the bike patrol there has been a positive change in the street activities.
The downtown and Lewis Park are definitely more inviting.
For those who think that bike and foot patrol is a waste of police efforts and some sort of naive grin and wave exercise, perhaps you could park your cars in the downtown, on your way to the big box stores and malls that have undermined the town centre, meet the constables and gain insight into what constitutes civil society.
That would be an exercise in common sense rather than Comox Valley Common Sense.
Donovan Carter,
Courtenay
