This past Saturday night, the Williams Lake Chamber of Commerce held its annual Business Excellence Awards and this year’s celebration was another great experience.

I was lucky enough to be there to see the great businesses and people of the Cariboo region recognized for their hard work and commitment to the betterment of our community.

Awards ranged from community boosters, to most improved, and to best customer service, and all the nominees and winners should be proud of the work they do.

The award winners included: Chemo RV Sales for Most Improved; Loggers Lunch for Best Food Services; Pioneer Log Homes for Newsmaker of the Year; Mt. Timothy Ski Society for Tourism; Lorne Doerkson for Community Booster; Blocks-R-Us for Manufacturing; Hoelzler Construction for Customer Service; Gibralter Mines for Business of the Year; and Walt Cobb won the Hugo Stahl Memorial Award sponsored by the City of Williams Lake.

The Chamber also deserves to be recognized for its wonderful efforts within Williams Lake.

It connects businesses and people with one another and works toward the common goal of strengthening our local economy, and improving the social well-being of the people living within it.

Those who act so selflessly in the spirit of keeping Williams Lake a great place to live deserve all the recognition they received Saturday night.

So congratulations to everyone involved in the Business Excellence Awards ceremony. It was a worthy cause and I was happy to be a part of it.

Donna Barnett is the Liberal MLA for Cariboo Chilcotin.
