Run-of-river hydro projects in B.C. require more than 50 approvals, permits and licenses from 14 government agencies before they can be built.
An example is the $180 million, 50 megawatt Kwoiek Creek project south of Lytton, which has taken 18 years to get from inception to construction.
Once completed the project will provide a cost-effective supply of clean, renewable energy for years to come with minimal impact on the environment.
