Thank you for your exciting and thorough coverage of International Women’s Day and One Billion Rising.
The powerful Cowichan Valley International Women’s Day Rally staged in Charles Hoey Park March 4 was organized and set up by local resident Gayle Hurmuses, her husband and friends, with much support.
Their great success was not given recognition in the news story on page 27 of the Cowichan Valley Citizen March 10.
To me, Gayle’s introductory speech echoed ” OUR VIEW: Progress? Feminism not dirty word”.
The resounding voice of Geniveve Charbonneau leading ‘Bread and Roses’ by James Oppenheim still echoes, “As we come marching, marching, we battle too for men, For they are women’s children, and we mother them again…Yes it is bread we fight for — but we fight for roses, too!”.
We honour and thank Gayle Hurmuses for staging and emceeing the successful participant engaging rally!
