Council refused to acknowledge dispensary issues

It wasn't until after the mayor finished, and after his angry denial of any support when he would not allow anyone to talk, that people began to speak up and protest.

Editor:  I presented the petition to Langley City council for a medical marijuana dispensary on Oct. 24, and would like to comment about our poor reception.

The important new evidence that Council refused to reply to was this.

We showed in detail and with legal references that:

1. Four out of five physician-authorized patients cannot safely access medicine;

2. The dispensary is not illegal, and that such fully transparent community dispensaries are sanctioned by our Supreme Courts;

3. Council has a legislated duty to act to remedy a medical or safety crisis in Langley; and

4. The fact that access to health care is a right that cannot be infringed upon by the “ideology or moral positioning of the government of the day,” and “has the highest legal priority” in Canada.

It wasn’t until after the mayor finished, and after his angry denial of any support when he would not allow anyone to talk, that people began to speak up and protest.

I hope a little understanding can be extended to those of us suffering from this serious discrimination, and the official denial of our legislated rights to safely access one’s prescribed medicine.
