Coverage of RCMP fatality and funeral hits home

Stories provide reminder of all that emergency services personnel do for their communities

Thank you for your poignant coverage of this tragic event in our community.

A tragic time with the loss of one of our own reminds us of all that first responders and police officers do for us in our community. They respond first to danger. They do it to serve and protect us, the citizens. These men and women bravely risk their lives patrolling our streets so we can sleep safely and soundly in our beds at night.

Const. Sarah Beckett paid the ultimate sacrifice. She gave her life for us. We must always remember this.

Behind the uniform is a person: a mother, father, sister, brother, wife, husband. They want to come home to their families at the end of their shift from serving their duty of protecting us. These men and women are people too, living a fragile, precious story.

They risk their lives for us and in a community where they are overworked and pushed to their limits, we must remember to give back. These officers deal with constant negativity and the support we have for them must outshine all that bad.

To offer gratitude and outreach and a sincere thank you for all they do for us. To honour their sacrifices and pay tribute. Not just this tragic week but all the days to come.

Our hearts go out to you, West Shore RCMP. You are not alone in this. We share your heartache. We care. Because we are family too, and community love and support surrounds you. That is what we give back to each and every one of you who continue to serve. A deep heartfelt thank you for all you do.
