To the Editor:

July 22 was an exciting day for the Creston Refugee Committee. The Karen family of seven that we have waited for for two-and-a-half years finally arrived in Creston! It must have been an exciting day for them, too, after living 14 years in a refugee camp on the Burma-Thailand border to finally be free and safe.

It is hard to rent housing for a family of seven so we were blessed when Pete Banman rented a house to us. We are so proud of all the beautiful furniture, linens and dishes that were donated to the family by the good people of this wonderful Creston Valley. The refugees were very tired and it must have cheered them up to see that each of the six beds was covered in a gorgeous homemade quilt donated by the Rather Be Quilting group.

We thank everyone who has so generously supported the refugee families that we have brought to Canada. We are sure that as soon as this family learns some English it will be thanking you, too. We hope that you will continue to support us for the next 12 months as we raise the money it takes to finance a family of seven.
