Curbing speeding not City’s job

Dear editor,

I read with some concern the article concerning speeders on Royal Vista Way.  My concern is that there is discussion of traffic calming measures to be taken in Crown Isle.  Do I recognize that speeding in subdivisions causes accidents?  Of course I do.  However, Royal Vista Way should be no different from Valley View, Idiens, Comox Avenue, Noel, etc. etc. – speeders should be identified by peace officers and ticketed accordingly.  I do not believe it is appropriate for the City to be involved in traffic calming measures or to be responsible for trying to curb speeding.  A contributing issue in this particular subdivision is one of golf cart riders arriving at the crosswalks and pulling right into the road without stopping and checking first.  Crosswalks do not mean guaranteed safety!

Perhaps we will need to take a leaf out of Victoria’s book and reduce the speed limit in Crown Isle; however, people clocked at 103 km/h are going to speed regardless of the posted speed limit!

Do I live in Crown Isle?  Yes I do.  And do I walk and bike in Crown Isle as well as drive?  Yes I do.  So I agree with curbing speeding and preventing accidents; but I don’t believe this should be done by the City because residents complain to the City.
