Dear editor,
I am very excited, as are many of my friends and colleagues, about our community getting curbside collection service for recyclables. I understand that it will take time to iron out all the details and make adjustments along the way in order to make this system efficient.
Our concern is with garbage being picked up every second week.
It will encourage an influx of black bears into our community and back yards once again. In the past this has been a big problem. The Bear Awareness Program has been successful for the last two years and black bears haven’t been an issue in our community.
Two-week-old garbage in the summer time will be irresistible to black bears, raccoons and rats. People who live in small homes with nowhere to store garbage will have no choice but to put it outside. Living with two-week-old garbage isn’t healthy or sanitary.
We respectfully request that you reconsider this part of the program as it is not conducive to healthy living or healthy communities.
