With its beautiful beaches, ocean air and beckoning trails, Parksville is a walker’s paradise. For those of us without cars, it is a blessing to have most amenities readily accessible on foot.
There is, however, a downside. I cannot adequately convey my fear as I walk on city sidewalks.
Every single time I do I am distressed by numerous bicyclists brazenly riding on the sidewalks too. They often approach from behind without warning and with no regard for pedestrian safety or courtesy.
I have heard of bicycle-pedestrian collisions and, mark my words, there will be more. What does it take?
Cyclists you are supposed to share the road with cars not the sidewalk with pedestrians! Read the riders’ guide! You are a vehicle and you do not belong in the path of walkers. Be safe… and keep everyone else safe too.
