Damage in the dark

Lots of damage is done to our beaches after the sun goes down

Re: Editor John Harding’s editorial in the Aug. 22 edition of The NEWS (‘A shell game’).

Many readers may not be aware that the worst damage is done at night.

Nanoose flats is an area being systematically stripped.

If you drive by between midnight and 4 a.m. in the early months of the year, you will see parked vehicles, lights on the beach and people dragging huge sacks back to their vehicles.

I have noticed this for at least the past four years. It is amazing that there is anything left on the beach.

I’m not sure what the answer is. There is no enforcement in the daytime, let alone the middle of the night.
