Admission is only $4 on most evenings except Thursday when you can get into a movie for only a Toonie. The selection of movies at the Encore is also impressive right now with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Trolls, Arrival, Allied and Queen of Katwe. You can also book your tickets online at www.landmarkcinemas.com or through the Atom ticketing app for no extra charge.

If you are wondering what Atom is, it is one of the slickest way of purchasing tickets but that is only the beginning of what the app can do.

It also allows you to invite friends and allows you to pre-purchase concession that you pick up through an exclusive line that bypasses the regular line up. You also have greater control over your purchase as you can cancel it yourself or change your seat selection (if purchased for Xtreme in West Kelowna). It is also the smoothest way to look up the most accurate showtimes from your smartphone and Atom frequently gives special offers.

Landmark Cinemas Grand 10 is opening three acclaimed movies. Hidden Figures is based on the true story of a team of African-American women who provided NASA with important mathematical data needed to launch the first successful space missions. Nominated for two Golden Globe Awards, it stars Octavia Spencer, Taraji P. Henson, Janelle Monáe, Kirsten Dunst, Jim Parsons and Kevin Costner.

Lion is the story of a five-year-old Indian boy finds himself lost on the streets of Calcutta, thousands of kilometres from home. 25 years after being adopted by an Australian couple, he sets off on a journey to find his lost family. Nominated for four Golden Globe Awards, Lion stars Dev Patel, Nicole Kidman and Rooney Mara.

And in what looks like a feast for the eyes is A Monster Calls, based upon the acclaimed novel about a 12-year-old boy who is dealing with his mother’s (Felicity Jones) illness, bullying classmates and a less than sympathetic grandmother (Sigourney Weaver). He finds a must unlikely ally when a monster (voiced by Liam Neeson) appears at his window. While possibly a little dark for the younger set, director J.A. Bayona (The Impossible) may have created a classic.

Opening at Xtreme in West Kelowna is Underworld: Blood Wars, the fifth film in the franchise. Kate Backinsale returns as Selene, the Vampire death dealer who must fend off attacks from both the Lycan clan and the Vampire faction that betrayed her.
