Delay drives frustration

Resident questions why they have not received a driver's license yet

I am a CPP disability recipient. I still have to work part-time to make ends meet. I can only make so much money per month in order to continue receiving my pension, which is understandable. But it still leaves me well below the poverty line.

I still have to pay my own medical/dental and pay 100 per cent of my prescriptions because I make $8 a month too much.

Last January, I went to renew my driver’s licence and was given a medical form to be filled out by my physician. I did this and my physician said I should be able to get my licence as soon as they fax the form back to Service Canada.

Fast forward to April, RoadSafetyBC still hadn’t reviewed the letter sent to them in January.

I contacted my MLA to speed things up.

I was told, by the MLA’s office, that they (RoadSafetyBC) may have a medical hold on my existing licence pending further assessment including an eye exam performed by an optometrist.

This is more money that I don’t have.

I did tell you that I’m living well below the poverty line.

An eye  exam was required from my doctor and it was done by my doctor, but now RoadSafety wants it done by an optometrist.

I haven’t had so much as a speeding ticket in more than 20 years yet they feel it’s OK to put a hold on me renewing my licence while people who have had numerous drunk driving convictions can still legally operate a motor vehicle.

Where is the justice?

What is the reason behind the medical hold on my licence?

I’m still waiting for answers.
