Wildwood Volunteer Fire Department Community Association, in conjunction with the Cariboo Regional District, has plans underway to establish the first Frisbee (disc) nine (hole) called Baskets, Par Three Golf Course in the Greater Williams Lake Area.
Disc golf is a game that requires a participant to walk and throw a disc and is considered to be a very healthy exercise. All ages, from small child to very senior citizen, including those with disabilities, can play the game.
Having a disc golf course in the greater Williams Lake area could be quite an economic booster to the community as a whole.
Thousands of very popular disc golf courses exist across Canada and the U.S., with quite a number here in B.C.
The wonderful part of disc golf, unlike regular golf, is that it is very inexpensive to play. All one needs to play is a Frisbee, or in the correct terminology, a disc or two.
The proposed Wildwood course will operate on the honour system and may cost only a toonie or a loonie donation to play a game.
To get this very healthy and environmentally friendly disc golf course up and running, the community of Wildwood is going to need help from the greater community of Williams Lake. In the spring, as this work gets underway, major help is going to be needed.
This course is going to be constructed the old fashion way, consisting of united people power, not big machinery.
Somewhat like our forefathers in their day of erecting a barn. It is expected that taking part in the construction of this course could be a great lot of fun.
Basically what will be required are volunteers to dig fence post holes, erect a chain link fence, and others to hand clear the course fairways. Mostly hand labour, requiring a bit of perspiration and a good pair of gloves. Contact the Wildwood VFD Community Association and let them know you want to help.
Names of all contributors will be posted on an on-site plaque. Make sure your name is on there.
