Re: recent story in The NEWS about the possibility of Qualicum Beach selling its water.
Coun. Bill Luchtmeijer indicated that “we’’ should be thinking a little bit out of the box. Perhaps, this council member fell out of the box, suggesting selling bulk water to Parksville.
For decades we live under (council imposed) water restrictions. We even penalize citizens if they don’t follow the rules and yet there is a council member suggesting to sell our water.
Residents of Qualicum Beach are very aware how extremely valuable and important our water wells are. We, the citizens, are also aware that Parksville’s problems are self made.
This council’s concern should be centred on securing our own wells. The time will come to not only look but establish connections to the best possible sources.
That means to revisit laid-away suggestions as discussed years back. Selling water is out of any consideration.
Qualicum Beach has enough qualified citizens to advise council about future considerations and options. Decisions of such magnitude should not be left exclusively to council members alone.
