The first time I drove into Qualicum Beach, I was greeted by the wonderful sight of an eagle up in the tree, along the beachfront. And ever since I moved here, it has always been a pleasure to see them there, in any weather and human endeavor that was going on.
I have been seeing the gradual disintegration of the grand old tree and wondered how it was going to end the common perch place. And after nearly 400 years it is going to be gone. It seems a perfect opportunity to replace it with something beautiful and symbolic, with the eagles still having a perch, to watch over their domain.
An idea that comes to mind, is a totem type pole with an eagle perch on top. It could represent the cultures here (through salmon, eagles, brants, deer etc.) It certainly would be great for local pride and the tourists too.
It would take some time, but I am sure the eagles would gladly re-establish themselves when it is back.
