Not surprisingly, North Okanagan-Shuswap Mel Arnold has slammed the Liberal government and the spring session that just wrapped up on Parliament Hill.
“Some of it was undoing the good work we did in the last 10 years,” said Arnold of his party’s time in power.
Obviously not everything Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has done is positive.
As an example, the scrapping of tax credits for youth sports and culture has certainly impacted some families negatively financially. Anything that can be done to keep our youth active should be considered.
However, there are some cases where Conservative policies needed to be reversed.
Since being elected last fall, the Liberals have reinstated the long-form census, which provides communities and other agencies with critical information required for long-term planning. They have also taken the muzzle off of federal scientists, allowing them to discuss their research with the media.
And, perhaps most importantly, the former Conservative hostility towards climate change has evaporated. Not everything the Liberals are pursuing on that front makes sense, but at least we have a government that acknowledges that the planet is facing a challenge.
Arnold is a Conservative so partisan comments are expected. They’re part of the political game.
But hopefully he will understand that not everything done by the former government was good for the country.
