With summer in full swing, the lakes, rivers and recreation areas in Grand Forks and area are really popular. The tragic deaths of the local man who dove into the Kettle River, and the motorcycle crash in Revelstoke, are two recent reminders of how dangerous recreating can be. These are just two very recent examples of two Grand Forks’ men whose lives ended far too soon.
Please be careful, folks, when you are out on the rivers and lakes. Be aware of your surroundings. Don’t take unnecessary chances. If you’re in a boat or even a canoe or kayak, make sure you’re wearing a life jacket and have proper licensing.
For those out in the woods on motorbikes or ATVs, be cautious of your surroundings as well. Other people, whether they are hikers, bikers or truckers, may not see or hear you coming until it’s too late.
And please don’t drink and drive—no matter what kind of vehicle you’re operating. Focus on the task at hand; put the cell phone away.
Summer is great time to enjoy our wonderful surroundings with our loved ones. Let’s make this summer memorable for the right reasons. Be smart. Be safe. Have fun.
