It’s a day we at the Alberni Valley News look forward to every year: our annual Day in the Life of Port Alberni photo shoot. This year we will be in the community with our cameras on Thursday, July 21, from dawn to dark.
We published our first Day in the Life photo section in the summer of 2007, so this one is our 10th annual as we celebrate our 10th year in the community.
Our team of photographers will be going around capturing moments of life in the Alberni Valley, and choosing a few moments to write about as well.
What we love the most about this day-long photo assignment—and what we hear from the people who look forward to seeing it every year—is it shows the beauty of humanity in our community. From the newest residents in the maternity ward, if we happen to catch them, to the oldest; from the first cup of coffee to the final bite of supper; the smiles, the tears, the laughter.
You could be mowing your lawn and we might stop to ask you about it. You might be doing something as spectacular as enjoying a moment outdoors, or going about your workday. We’ll document it.
Even though we will have nine photographers out and about, we can’t possibly capture everything. So we are again asking you to share a Day in Your Life with the photo contest portion of our shoot. E-mail us with your best photo from Thursday, July 21 and some details—the time you took it, where, who is in the photo and what the people are doing—and e-mail it to editor@albernivalleynews.com. We will publish as many as we can in our souvenir edition coming out Tuesday, Aug. 23.
