The Port Alberni Toy Run supports youth in the Alberni Valley in myriad ways, from putting on free family events like First Night to sponsoring others. Members are prominent in local parades, and the annual Toy Run itself draws hundreds of bikers and spectators alike while raising funds and collecting toys for kids.
Now, the Toy Run is asking Port Albernians to help them out by voting for Port Alberni as Canada’s most rider friendly community.
Port Alberni has made it to the first public voting round in Canada’s Most Rider Friendly Community contest. The city is one of eight from across the country—and one of three in British Columbia—vying for first place.
The contest is a rural tourism initiative put on by the Rider Friendly Business Association and Community Futures Alberta. A top prize of $35,000 will be awarded to the winning community. Think about what the Toy Run could do for the youth in Port Alberni with that kind of a prize.
Online voting for the first round ends on March 2, and people are only allowed one vote per day. Midway through the voting, Port Alberni was neck-and-neck with Drumheller in the top two spots. To register and vote, go online to www.riderfriendlycontest.ca and look for Port Alberni in the list.
Bikers are well celebrated in our community. Now it’s time for us to show them the love by voting.
