The 31st annual Funtastic Slo-Pitch Tournament and Music Festival is well underway, and if forecasts can be believed it will be a hot one.
Players should make sure they take advantage of the water bottles being handed out all weekend, not to mention the misting station near the beverage gardens. And of course sunscreen is a no-brainer.
Close to 300 teams are playing in Vernon, Armstrong and Enderby and although many teams are vying to do their best, the accent is always on fun in Funtastic.
The music festival wraps up tonight with headliner Moist taking to the stage at 10:30 p.m. as once again organizers have delivered a good lineup for all to enjoy.
We hope all participants enjoy the festivities responsibly and truly celebrate the tourney’s motto of “Building a Better Community Through Sport.”
And it’s a motto that rings true because not only does the Funtastic Sports Society board of directors and staff, volunteers, sponsors and, of course, participants, help make this one of the best tournaments and community events in the country, there’s a legacy of generosity that will live on for decades to come.
Over the years, more than $1.5 million has been provided for building fields, improving sports facilities and boosting local not-for-profit agencies.
So this weekend is a win-win for the participants and the community at large as it continues to bring people together in celebration of sport as well as provide funding for improved facilities long into the future.
Well done to all involved and fyi, next year’s tourney goes June 30 to July 3.
