Education system has been cannibalized

Christy Clark’s last election campaign was “Family’s First” and promoting and developing the LNG revenue bonanza.

Dear Editor:

Christy Clark’s last election campaign was “Family’s First” and promoting and developing the LNG revenue bonanza we were about to all enjoy.

It is all very evident how these campaign promises have panned out.

B.C. youth poverty remains the second worst in Canada, families and communities are experiencing devastating school closures.

It is amazing that the wrath for the school closures is being directed at the school boards instead of the provincial government.

School boards have been told for years to be “creative” in finding savings in their budgets.

They have done this over the years but now the only “creative” strategy left is to cannibalize the education system.

School board members are unfairly being blamed for shrinking funds over which they have no control.

School boards across the province should consider resigning en masse in protest and let the government shoulder the blame for which they are responsible.
