Education underfunded

Re: Vocational school back in style, PNR May 7.

I agree with some of Tom Fletcher’s points regarding an over emphasis on a university education and focusing more on general skills training for a proportion of our students.

However, where he quotes Christy Clark as saying 20 per cent of B.C. students don’t graduate from high school, could that, in part at least, be due to an education system grossly underfunded for the last decade?

With insufficient funds to provide special needs teachers, failing or unmotivated students are placed in regular classrooms, with no special attention being provided.

No wonder so many of them fall between the cracks.
