Re: Federal election not needed, Letters, March 25, 2011.
We may not want a federal election, but many citizens know we need an election.
Only one person brought this on and sadly the arrogance and lack of integrity of Prime Minister Stephen Harper is the root cause, as confirmed by Parliament. Our prime minister cannot lie or deceive Parliament and not expect to be found in contempt and thus face the consequences of his actions. “Feathering nests” is not what this is about to many of the public.
If we, as a democracy, do not challenge intolerable behaviour of our elected officials then we are failing as a democracy.
Consider the plight of many of the North African states fighting for their rights amidst government corruption. They are prepared to die to gain what we have in Canada.
If the result is the same as before, then so be it. But please do not let apathy take over because change happens with the first step, and every vote counts.
