Dear Sir:
Seems like the past year of 2011 presented us with various emotional topics in the news. Not only have we seen despair in world events but, we have seen the emotional side of politics.
In July 2011 Jack Layton held a press conference stating that he would be taking a temporary leave of absence. In that same conference, Jack mentioned that we need hope and optimism in our hearts in order for us to be responsible.
Layton also stated that we need a clean environment. This made me think about all the awful sights of tragic oil spills. Oil spills seem to be a recurring theme on many news broadcasts. How sad it is to watch a country as the oil spills ruin the land and damage their environment and water.
In November, Global News aired an emotional Premier Christy Clark. Clark broke down into tears as she was discussing BC’s tougher impaired driving penalties.
Clark recalled how a colleague of hers had lost a son to a drunk driver. Saying, “All of us must live every day with the knowledge that the greatest risk to our children and the people that we love is not terrorism, it’s not a plane crash, it’s a drunk driver.”
Clark went on to say “The impact of the government’s changes to the drunk-driving laws have been felt in a very real way across the province.”
News reports say that lawyers had argued that B.C.’s automatic roadside driving prohibition law, which went into effect in September 2010, is unconstitutional. Who is arguing for families who have lost loved ones to drunk driving?
This holiday season make sure you stay safe and get a designated driver or call a taxi. Stay safe and have a great holiday season with your family and loved ones. Happy New Year to one and all.
