Before you hit the polls on Saturday to cast your vote for mayor, councillors, Cariboo Regional District directors, and school trustees, let loose and have a little fun at the Christmas Magic Light Up events taking place tomorrow night.
With all of the election hub-bub going on in recent months, it’s easy to get bogged down in all of the political pandering and lose sight of activities that shouldn’t be taken for granted.
Sure, there are lots of important and serious issues that are worth attention, but let’s not forget about the importance of enjoying the start of the holiday season and spending time with loved ones.
The annual Christmas Magic Light Up and Santa Parade offer a venue for just that, while also serving to build a stronger sense of community.
Every year volunteers work tirelessly to bring these events to our little city — costumes are prepared, horses and carriages are organized, and even good ol’ Saint Nick makes a special trip to the lakecity to say hello to all of the good boys and girls eager to whisper their Christmas wishes in his ear.
A brief rundown of the holiday kick-off is as follows:
Festivities begin at 6 p.m., with the Santa Parade marching down Oliver Street to the Spirit Square, where visitors can have their photos taken with Santa Claus and Inharmony’s purebred Alaskan Malamutes, satisfy their appetites with burgers, warm up with hot chocolate, enjoy Christmas tunes provided by local musicians, and take a little ride in a horse carriage.
At 7 p.m., make sure you are present for the Christmas tree light up.
Happy holidays — and happy voting!
