To the Editor,
Re: Science loses ground to superstition, Oct. 3.
The pseudo-science Tom Fletcher exposes is a dangerous superstition. Sometimes called “biocentrism,” it holds that humans are just another biological thing.
There are profound reasons for the popular appeal of the environmentalism cult. The decline of religious insight has left the public vulnerable to “save the world” zealots, no matter how false their message. Urban life leaves many yearning for an imagined pristine wilderness. Combine these trends with multi-billion dollar advertising campaigns and even more profitable green-wash deals, and the result is predictable.
